EMC MUD 3 – Water Update

Apr 21, 2022

The Board of Directors of East Montgomery County Municipal Utility District No. 3 (District) want to update residents regarding the current efforts to address the water quality inquiries that we have received from members of our community.

As residents may be aware from our previous article, water provided to Porters Mill residents comes from two water wells that pump water from the Jasper and Evangeline aquifers. Each of these water wells is regularly tested by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and by the District’s Operator, TNG Utility Corp. (TNG).

While the water remains safe to drink, the water from Water Plant No. 1 (WP1) continues to produce discolored, and sometimes odorous, water entering residents’ homes. Upon receipt of resident water quality reports, we flushed the lines and took other actions to address the issue. Specifically, we took WP1 offline and switched the District’s water distribution to Water Plant No. 2, which resolved the discoloration issue, meaning that discoloration is isolated to water produced from WP1.

Again, we want to confirm that the water remains (and has always been) within safe parameters to consume per TCEQ standards. Our engineers and TNG continue to work to eliminate the discoloration and odor that some of our residents have experienced.

The Board of Directors continues to take all resident concerns very seriously, and is working with TNG, the TCEQ, and District engineers to resolve the issues in an efficient and satisfactory manner for all parties concerned. Until permanent solutions are implemented, if you have any questions about your water, or if you experience discolored and/or odorous water in your home, please contact TNG at 281-350-0985 or submit a question through the web form on the “Contact Us” page.

Sincerely,
Board of Directors
