EMCMUD 3 – Wastewater Treatment Plant Project

May 3, 2022

The Board of Directors of East Montgomery County Municipal Utility District No. 3 (EMCMUD 3) would like to update residents and customers as to the status of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Project currently underway within the District.

The existing wastewater treatment plant currently servicing the District is a temporary, steel tank facility. The plant is nearing capacity, and the Board has therefore initiated construction of a replacement facility.

The new facility will ultimately have a total capacity of 900,000 gallons processed per day (GPD) Construction of Phase 1, with a capacity of 300,000 GPD, has begun. All permits and plans have been approved by regulatory authorities, bids have been taken, and the construction contract has been awarded. The projected cost of Phase 1 is approximately $9 million and is expected to take around one calendar year to complete.

The new facility will have many modern upgrades from the steel tank facility, including an extended aeration basin. Future phases will add a filter belt press to minimize waste haul. Overall, the improvements of this state-of-the-art facility will result in a more energy and cost-efficient wastewater treatment process for the District and its residents and customers.
