Greetings from the President
Jan 10, 2025Happy New Year to everyone.
As most of you are aware, the East Montgomery County Municipal Utility District No. 3 (“the District”) is growing very rapidly. After two 2 years of construction, the District will soon start operations of the new permanent wastewater treatment plant. The District is also upgrading the water supply system along with cleaning and replacing one of the main water pumps. The Porters Mill Community continues to grow with lots of new families moving in, as well as the industrial side with more job opportunities coming every month.
It is the beginning of tax season, and the District collects “MUD” taxes to construct and maintain the infrastructure necessary to provide water and sanitary sewer services to the community. While we can all agree that it is common to complain about taxes – they are necessary to ensure the continued maintenance and growth of the District.
Some of you may have noticed that you are now receiving two (2) property tax bills. The District’s taxes were previously collected by the Montgomery County Tax Assessor-Collector along with the local school district and special service taxes. Two years ago, the District hired Utility Tax Services (“UTS”), to serve as the District’s Tax Assessor-Collector, to collect the “MUD” taxes to ensure the tax collections and distributions are handled correctly as our District continues to grow. UTS has been a great benefit for the District’s tax collection operations. Please note that the District’s 2024 tax rate is the same as the 2023 tax rate, it is now being paid to a different entity.
I hope this helps clarify any confusion our residents may have regarding their 2024 “MUD” tax bill.
Thank you for understanding.
